About Green Village
why “green village”?
“Green Village” is simply a more descriptive way to define but also describe the goal of sustainable development: a green village is a place where nature and human community and economy co-exist and prosper in harmony. Too often, human economy occurs at the expense of ecology, equity, and community.
The goal of sustainable development is to ensure healthy economy, ecology, and community for present and future generations through sound decisions and actions of government, business, and citizens.
who is green village?
Green Village Consulting is Evan Lowenstein, a Rochester, New York resident with degrees in Communication Studies (B.A.) and Urban & Environmental Planning (Masters) from the University of Virginia. Evan brings skills, experience, and energy to the quest for sustainable development. He has over fifteen years of experience in community and land use planning, community development, civic engagement, and environmental education.
what has Green Village done?
Here’s a sampling:
- co-founded a statewide smart growth advocacy organization
- authored myriad reports, articles, opinion pieces, and more on land use, community planning and development, and environmental issues
- written scripts for a nationally syndicated environmental radio program
- worked with a mid-sized city’s community development department and citizen committee on its “aging in place” planning project
- made many, myriad presentations to diverse audiences on land use and community planning/development issues
- conducted research on economic, environmental, and social issues for clients ranging from a national metropolitan policy organization to a Pulitzer prize-winning journalist and best-selling author
- facilitated program design and led the writing of a successful $303,000 federal grant proposal
- organized and facilitated events, forums, roundtables, meetings, grant-writing processes
- designed and managed websites for urban revitalization and smart growth organizations
